I designed, and my company, ImageXpress, produced the award-winning Adobe Photoshop plug-in ScanPrepPro. This software automated all image processing adjustments required to produce professional-grade images for personal printing, pre-press, and Internet use. The ScanPrep Pro software was coined "the Auto-Pilot for Adobe Photoshop," and won top awards and consistently achieved "five-star" publication reviews, culminating in Editors' Choice Awards from two prominent imaging publications, as well as the coveted Eddy Award for "Best Production Software" from MacUser Magazine. |
I have written dozens of articles for publications over the years on the topics of scanning, color correction, color management, and electronic pre-press, and was a contributing author in the Addison-Wesley book Real World PostScript. MacWeek magazine credited me with "leading the pack in the field of color separations on the Macintosh." I served as the Technical Editor of the Osborne-McGraw/Hill book entitled Scanning the Professional Way. I was the co-designer of Macromedia FreeHand and in 1998 was listed in Who's Who in America, for my contribution to the desktop publishing industry. ImageXpress developed a version of ScanPrepPro (AP Shooter) for The Associated Press. This digital image processing software became a staple for the AP and was used to streamline the processing of AP's image processing production, which included political conventions, Super Bowls, World Series, two Olympic games, two Tour 'de France races, and the World Cup. |
I've written numerous feature articles on digital imaging techniques, hardware, and software product reviews for many photography, printing industry, and computer trade publications over the years and served as a Contributing Editor to Photo Electronic Imaging (PEI) and Professional Photographer magazines. I've been certified by IDEAlliance as a Color Management Professional in both Fundamentals and Pre-Media categories. I'm a webinar presenter for IDEAlliance on the topic "Color Management for Photography." In my most recent work, I authored a 500 page book entitled Accurate Color, The Complete Guide to Achieving Accurate Color with Your Digital Images. The book is currently being developed as a video series.

Herb Paynter Getting color right is not a new challenge for me. For more than four decades my career has been focused on accurate color reproduction. I have some pretty serious roots in the photography and publishing industries, with many years of experience in design, photography, pre-media, and printing operations. Early in 1985 I redirected twenty years of printing and photographic experience toward the upstart electronic publishing industry as an author, conference speaker, instructor, graphic arts consultant and Certified Adobe Systems software developer. |
As a graphic arts consultant to several major software developers in the mid 1980s, I focused my efforts on issues concerning digital image capture, image manipulation and accurate color reproduction. Some of my work has been incorporated into current image editing and pre-press software. I have produced images for both print and Internet publishing for years. My experience in the publishing industry has enabled me to consistently produce well-behaved newspaper, magazine, catalog, and Internet images.
